Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our skip bin services.
Can I hire a skip bin for longer than 7 days?

If you need a longer hire period, we can certainly accommodate that.  Please contact our office on 0428 699 428 to discuss extended hire pricing and terms.

The standard hire period for a skip bin in seven (7) days.

Yes. Payment for the skip bin hire is required prior to delivery. The hire price includes delivery, up to 7 days hire, and collection, while waste disposal charges are calculated separately after the bin is taken to the disposal facility and weighed.

To cover disposal costs, we take a holding deposit at the time of booking. The deposit amount varies depending on the type of waste being disposed of. Once the bin has been collected and tipped:

  • The disposal charges are deducted from the holding deposit.

  • If there is money remaining, it will be refunded within 7 business days.

  • If the disposal charges exceed the deposit, the remaining balance will be charged to the same credit card used at booking.

Please note that credit card payments incur a surcharge of 1.6% + $0.30 per transaction (Visa/Mastercard domestic) from 1 July 2025.

If you have any questions about deposits or disposal charges for your specific waste type, our team will be happy to explain this when booking.

Whitsunday Waste offers a range of convenient payment options. You can pay by credit or debit card when booking your skip bin through our online booking system or by calling our team.

Our preferred payment method is direct bank transfer. If paying by bank transfer, please include your invoice number as the payment reference so we can easily match your payment.

We can also accept cash or cheque payments if arranged in advance.  Our team can also accept cash when they arrive to deliver the bin, however it is important that someone is onsite at the time of delivery to make the payment. If no one is available, the bin may not be delivered and additional charges may apply.

If you would like to discuss payment options, please contact our team on 0428 699 428 and we’ll be happy to help.

We believe in being upfront about any potential extra costs so there are no surprises. Additional charges may apply in certain situations — for example if a bin is overfilled, contains materials that contaminate the load (such as paint, plaster, or wet concrete), or if our team needs to sort or unload items before disposal.

Fees may also apply if we cannot safely access the delivery or collection location, if a collection is attempted but the bin cannot be accessed, or if access issues delay our driver beyond the initial 15-minute allowance (waiting time is charged at $165 per hour). Charges can also apply if a bin is moved without permission, used by someone else, requires special retrieval, or if the hire period extends beyond 7 days.

Additional costs may also apply for restricted delivery locations, longer travel distances, specific delivery or collection time requests, relocation of bins, or if weather or site access issues prevent collection when scheduled. Customers are responsible for ensuring clear and safe access and may be liable for damage to bins, vehicles, or nearby property caused by unsafe conditions or hazards at the site.

Please also note that local Council disposal facilities charge additional fees for certain items, including mattresses and tyres. If these items are placed in your skip bin, the applicable Council disposal fees will be passed on to the customer.

Our team will always aim to communicate any potential additional charges wherever possible so everything remains clear and transparent.

We aim to keep things simple and fair, and we appreciate invoices being paid on time. If an account becomes overdue, the following charges may apply. A $35 late payment fee may be applied to each unpaid invoice, along with a $25 monthly administration fee while the account remains outstanding. Interest may also be charged at 15% per annum on overdue amounts, calculated daily. If further action is required to recover the debt, any reasonable collection costs, including legal fees, may also be passed on to the customer.

If you’re having trouble paying an invoice, we encourage you to contact our us as soon as possible so we can work with you to find a solution.

Skip bins can only be filled to the rim otherwise referred to as water level and no higher.  We cannot safely transport skip bins when it is loaded above the rim as items may fall out during transport and become projectiles.  Whitsunday Waste cannot accept the bin if the waste exceeds the bin capacity or is higher than the top rim.  You will need to remove the additional items before collection.  If Whitsunday Waste is unable to perform a scheduled bin changeover or collection once onsite due to an overloaded bin, an additional charge will apply.

Although Whitsunday Waste will always try to place the skip bin where you prefer, due to workplace health and safety requirements, the final placement is determined by our driver to ensure the bin can be delivered and collected safely and efficiently.

If you request the bin to be placed inside your property, please note that Whitsunday Waste will not accept responsibility for any above-ground or underground damage that may occur.

The bin must also be positioned so it does not create a hazard for pedestrians or road users. If the bin is placed on public land (such as a verge or roadway), it is the customer’s responsibility to obtain any required council permits.

Once delivered, the skip bin must remain in the same position with clear access for collection. The bin must not be moved or relocated by the customer or any third party. If the bin is moved to a location where it cannot be safely collected, the customer may be responsible for retrieval costs, extended hire fees due to delays, a $100 relocation fee, and any costs required to return the bin to a safe collection position.

Skip bins must not be moved by the customer. Whitsunday Waste truck drivers are professionals and will try to meet your skip bin placement request. Sometimes this is not possible due to an unacceptable safety risk or truck access limitation. Moving a skip bin after it has been delivered may risk damage to your property, damage of the skip bin (which you may be liable for) and compromise the safety of our driver at the time of bin collection.

Whitsunday Waste will not accept any liability for property damage or injury to rectify a customer ‘re-positioned’ skip. If you require a skip bin to be re-positioned correctly, please call our office us 0428 699 428 to arrange. Additional charges may apply.

You will be liable for all additional decontamination costs, asbestos and asbestos impacted material disposal charges, environmental penalties, clean up and transport costs incurred as a result. Immediate payment is required from the customer for all costs.
